Who is eligible to enter this competition?

  • Professional Journalists

    Applicants who are routinely paid for the type of work they are submitting, whether local or national, are considered professionals for the purposes of this competition.

  • Community Journalists

    Community Journalists may be professionals or unpaid contributors to local publications such as newsletters for religious communities, Lions Clubs, Boy Scouts, local-level media, or social benefit organizations.

  • Student Journalists

    Any current undergraduate or graduate student residing in the United States.

Winning Prizes

We are looking for works that provide greater understanding of Muslim Americans; provoke viewers and readers politically, emotionally, or cognitively; and contextualize complex issues. Preference will be given to work that demonstrates an impact on an individual, community, organization, or government policies.

  • One Prize for Written Word, $10,000.

    One Prize for Audio, $10,000.

  • Two prizes for community stories or opinion pieces in any medium, $4,000 each.

  • Two prizes in any medium, $1,000 each.

The Goldziher Prize 2023 judges will nominate and award a journalist working anywhere in the world, who shines a light on Muslim communities.

2023 Rules

The William and Mary Greve Foundation (“the Sponsor”) presents the Goldziher Prize competition.
